Melva Wilson Costen is Helmar Emil Nielsen Professor Emeritus of Worship and Music at the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Georgia, where she taught for thirty-two years. She chaired the committee that developed The Presbyterian Hymnal: Hymns, Psalms and Spiritual Songs and served on the Advisory Committee for the African American Heritage Hymnal. She is the author of several books.

About the Author
John A. Bargh is Professor of Psychology at New York University. He received his Ph.D. in Social Psychology from the University of Michigan in 1981. He has served as Associate Editor of the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology and is currently President of the Society for Experimental Social Psychology. In 1989 he received the Distinguished Scientific Award for an Early Career Contribution to Psychology from the American Psychological Association for his research on the automaticity of social cognition and perception.

Peter M. Gollwitzer received his Diploma in Psychology from the Ruhr-Universitat Bochum (Germany) in 1977, and his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin in 1981. In 1983 he joined the Max-Planck-Institute for Psychological Research in Munich and started research on the role of volition in motivation. Since 1993, Dr. Gollwitzer has held the social psychology and motivation chair at the University of Konstanz. His research interests focus on aspects of the willful pursuit of goals (e.g., identity goals, mindsets, implementation intentions).

The Psychology of Action

I have found this book to be a great reference for goal theory. Having been published in 1996, it provides another source for following the evolution of goal theory, after such books as Maehr and Braskamp's, "The Motivation Factor", and Locke and Latham's, "A Theory of Goal Setting & Task Performance". The contributing authors read like a who's who of contemporary goal setting and achievement research. It has been very helpful in my research, it collects into one book current information that I spent considerable time finding one article at a time from several journals. I'm in Sport Psychology and I have concluded it is a must have.

About the Author
Jeffrey Wolf Green has been called the founder of Evolutionary Astrology, and rightly so. He began to lecture on Evolutionary Astrology in 1977, and wrote this first book called Pluto: The Evolutionary Journey Of The Soul in 1985. He has lectured all around the world, and this book has been translated in eight languages. The Evolutionary Astrology that he taught is a pioneering work that allows for a complete understanding of the Souls evolutionary journey from life to life. He established schools in Chile, Israel, England, Holland, Canada, America, and Germany. He also created a video correspondence course in 1994, and wrote the second volume to this work in 1996 called Pluto: The Soul's Evolutionary Journey Through Relationships. His daughter, Deva Green, also edited a book of his unpublished lectures called The Evolutionary Journey Of The Soul: Essays in Evolutionary Astrology in 2011.

Excellent read. One of the few contemporary social theorists and astrologers with unique ideas and deep knowledge. I read this to fill in the cracks after all other astrology books leave me wanting and I am not disappointed.

The finite element method (FEM) technique has been developed to simulate and analyze complex engineering problems. However, there are a number of drawbacks with finite element simulation of discontinuous problems, such as fracture mechanics problems, including the computational cost of a very fine finite element mesh and the complex remeshing strategy in capturing discontinuity. The extended finite element method (XFEM) has therefore been developed to improve the performance of the conventional finite element method in discontinuity problems.

Extended Finite Element Method: Theory and Applications introduces the theory and applications of XFEM in the linear and nonlinear problems of continua, structures, and geomechanics. It begins by introducing the concept of a partition of unity, various enrichment functions, and fundamentals of XFEM formulation. It then covers the theory and application of XFEM in large deformations, plasticity, and contact problems. The implementation of XFEM in fracture mechanics, including linear, cohesive, and ductile crack propagation, is also covered. Finally, the theory and applications of XFEM in multiphase fluid flow, including hydraulic fracturing in soil saturated media and crack propagation in thermo-hydro-mechanical porous media, are discussed in detail.

The writing style flows easily and as I read it

I have always been interested in the concept of knowing and understanding your Why and first became aware of it about a few years ago. What stands out about this book is the way in which the content tells you simply how you can discover your WHY. The writing style flows easily and as I read it, it feels like a conversation. It was an easy read where you also got to feel like the author was someone who understood you. The examples and references used are ones I can relate to. Reading this book also made me make immediate changes in the way I thought about where I was, where I want to go and what I needed to do to get there. This is a book for ACTION takers!

If you are still looking for your WHY - your mission, if you believe that there is more than going to work and paying bills and that an exciting and purposeful life is possible, this is the right manual for you! Cheryl tells her life story, shows on her example that a radical change is really possible and provides practical advice, tools and online support which can help you to achieve it. A very pleasant and well structured read (you can easily read it in one go).
PS If you ever have the chance to see her life don't hesitate to do it!!! She is an excellent speaker, with a great sense of humour and a lovely accent from Yorkshire :)

This lady has an amazing insight how to go about life and how to achieve goals after defining where you need to be, having the pleasure of meeting the "LASS" in the flesh and a hug reality sets in that being genuine is the first port of call and the rest comes naturally! The last two chapters and appendices examine observation, other methods of data collection and research designs that may produce accurate or correct information, and shows how reliance on survey research can be overcome, and must be.
