Randall W. Rhea is a leading RF and microwave engineering expert with extensive industry experience, working for Boeing Company, Goodyear Aerospace, and Scientific-Atlanta. He is the author of two other popular books in the field, as well as numerous technical papers and tutorial CDs. He is a graduate of the University of Illinois and Arizona State.

Good book for learning overall aspects of Oscillator Design

I would rated at 3.5 stars. It is very informative and I really like Rhea's delivery. I own the his previous two books (Oscillator Design & Computer Simulation, and HF Filter Design and Computer Simulation). Those have some good examples but also are written more as companion books to Genesys. This one is much less removed from Genesys, so in that sense it truly stands on its own. But the examples, although numerous, are pretty light in explanation. The material is truly a compendium of various topics, and in doing so it is quite well put together; but the examples (in my opinion) should provide a bit more depth to describe more of the steps taken to create the designs (and perhaps some of the reasoning behind it). I have found on examples on this (and the other books) that some of the examples are not easily reproducible on other systems (ex. AWR or LINC). I presume that downloading the Genesys example files should reproduce the results quite adequately, but most of the examples should be reproducible on other systems and I have found that is not always the case. All in all I would buy it again.

Excellent book on discrete oscillator design using computer simulation

This is a book written from a very practical approach to designing discrete oscillators by someone who seems to have practical experience in building the hardware too. It is not laden with heavy theory like most textbooks, but employ computer simulations to quickly get an intuitive engineering understanding of how oscillator works. If you search on Google under "genesys oscillator workspace download", you can download the actual simulation files used in the writing of the book. If you don't have a book on oscillator design, maybe you can start with this one.
